Owen Brown brings to SCS over 30
years of executive management experience in a variety of
industries.
As President and CEO of Owen Brown
Enterprises, Ltd. since 1989, he provides
management services for
start-up and turnaround companies, including general and
marketing management, funding, and team development.
In addition, as
Chairman and CEO of Migration Software Systems, Ltd.
since 1989, he has led
a software engineering services company for customers
who are primarily Fortune 100 companies requiring expert
skills to develop and implement new technologies. He
remains as Chairman of the Corporation today.
As Managing Partner,
Technology Strategies & Alliances,
from 1995 to 2001, he provided
special expertise
in both computer systems and software in the disciplines
of sales, marketing, general management, and start-up
phases of high-technology companies for an
investment-banking firm specializing in structuring
strategic alliances between companies.
From 1988 to 1989, Owen was President and CEO at
Synthesis Software
Solutions, where he led a team to establish a large base of software tools and
applications for all platforms built on the MIPS
RISC-based architecture. This required both the
engineering skills to adapt a wide variety of software
to this new technology as well as the coordination of
the software procurement activities of MIPS and its
major corporate customers. Synthesis was merged into
MIPS in August 1989 prior to the MIPS IPO.
As Vice President at Xerox
Corporation from 1986 to 1987 (for both the Workstation and PC Business
Unit, and Document Systems Marketing), he
held complete
responsibility for
product planning, positioning and development as well as
total financial performance for both Document Processing
workstations and Xerox designed PC's. Subsequent to the
corporate reorganization in Oct. 1986, his responsibilities
were for marketing of all computer-based products in the
document preparation and publishing areas. Both
assignments involved very close interaction and
coordination with the international organizations, Rank
Xerox and Fuji Xerox.
In 1984, Owen joined Parallel Computers, Inc.,
as President and CEO. Parallel had been formed four
years earlier to produce and sell high-reliability
minicomputers for the UNIX environment. Additional
funding was raised during this period, and the product
design was refined. Lack of market viability drove the
decision to dramatically reduce the company and sell the
remaining assets.
From 1983 to 1984, Owen was President and CEO of
Sun
Microsystems, where he was
responsible for recruiting and building a senior
management team, building a strong, effective sales
organization, and closing many large OEM and End-User
accounts. During this period the mezzanine round of
financing was successfully completed despite major
downward pressure on private, high-tech companies.
Major contributions included building an experienced
senior management team, establishing a clear focus to
the business direction, and the closing of at least two
"company-maker" accounts.
Prior to Sun Microsystems, Owen also held several key positions at Digital Equipment Corporation
(1970-1983).
Owen earned a B.S. in
Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University, and an
MBA from the University of Chicago, as well as
completing the Tuck Executive Management Program through the Tuck
School of Business at Dartmouth College. After
beginning his military career on active duty in the
submarine force in 1964, he retired as Captain, USNR in 1989. |
